ABOUT US

Funky Feet is an exciting, newly launched programme of physical, fun activity, based in Stockton and delivering across the North East and North Yorkshire.

We developed the programme because we are passionate about the importance of physical activity and the importance of young children developing fundamental skills. Many programmes aimed at pre-school children place too great an emphasis on skill acquisition and not enough on fun. However we do things a little differently. We know that to effectively engage children in a learning programme then it has to be fun and packed with encouragement, and the Funky Feet programme ticks both boxes!

HOW WE DO IT

The structure of each Funky Feet session is identical which provides a stable learning process and session format for children. Whilst session structure is identical - the activity and delivery differs making no two Funky Feet sessions the same!

We know children at this age lose concentration quickly, so we base each session around a different piece of equipment. This keeps each session different and fun, whilst developing a number of different fundamental skill each week including; body awareness, catching, skipping, spatial awareness, social interaction, balance and concentration.

The Funky Feet programme spans a half-term and is designed for children aged between 2-6. Each session lasts on average 45-minutes.

Each Funky Feet session starts with warm up action songs. This gets the children ready for the activity they will be doing by moving to music (which we think is a lot more fun than running on the spot or stretching in silence)

After warming up, equipment activity begins. Each session is based around a different piece of equipment and children carry out a series of activities and tasks. The equipment is specially selected to focus on the developmental of a different skill each week.

Our programme has been designed to support the Early Years Foundation Stage. This is a set of standards of learning, development and care for children from birth, aged up until 5 years old.

Sessions contain a short break were the children eat their specially selected piece of fruit. Once they have eaten their fruit, they then take part in more cool down songs, followed by catchable bubbles and a sticker which indicates that its time for home.

A Funky Feet session blends together play, physical exercise and learning in an exciting and fun activity for children.
